It's time for me to let out my scottishness once again!
Right people it is coming to that time again where I need to educate you lovely guys about the strange Scottish culture. On Jan the 25th us crazy Scots celebrate the life of beloved poet Robert (Rabbie) Burns, this can sometimes be a massive ceremony and runs in basically this main order,
Firstly the guests are piped in, followed by a welcome by the chairman who also recites
The Selkirk grace
"Some hae meat and canna eat,

and some wad eat that want it,
but we hae meat and we can eat,
and sae the Lord be thankit."
It is then that the Haggis is brought into to the top table usually accompanied by a piper (yer we love our music) and the haggis is presented it is at this time the honoured reader recites the poem of the night "To a Haggis" I wont paste this poem it is quite long but I think u should all have a read (it helps to read it out loud to better understand it if ur not used to reading scots) http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/history/burnsnight/poetry/haggis.shtml - you can also listen to it on this site.
This has a few responses like cutting the haggis on the line "An' cut you up wi' ready sleight" and a raising of hands on the last line to a mass of applause!
It is after all this we eat a haggis supper (haggis, neeps and tattles) this is often followed by items of entertainment mainly poems and songs, as with all Scottish celebrations a lot of whiskey and a toast to the lassies ending with a good old round of Auld Lang syne
see doesn't it sound like a lot of fun!
So I was thinking I may hold a burns night of my own! although I’m thinking probably not the pipers and things more like come over to mine, east some haggis and maybe watch brave heart or something so I can feel patriotic also I have a bottle of Jonny walker black label which is just asking to be drunken at such occasion.
So give me a shout if ur interested and I shall arrange something! Party party party drop me a comment or something and I shall e-mail with details as and when. Oh how I love being Scottish!
